Online business exchanges made possible amid global COVID-19 pandemic

The 128th China Import and Export Fair, held from Oct 15 to 24, has attracted guests from 37 countries and regions to promote economic exchanges.

Also known as the Canton Fair, its organizers have focused on channels and networks of the fair’s global partners and key business institutions in hosting 38 online promotional events in 37 countries and regions.

The events are supported by embassies and consulates abroad and have attracted more than 3,600 guests, including government officials, leaders of important business associations and representatives of the business communities.

In addition to connecting with the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, Spain and other traditional developed countries, the online promotion events have been expanded to countries and regions involved in the Belt and Road Initiative, Latin America, Africa and other emerging markets.

Nineteen online promotional events were held in 18 countries involved in the Belt and Road Initiative, including Russia and Malaysia.

This year’s Canton Fair also launched online matching events in France, Ukraine, Tanzania and the United Arab Emirates, and set up online communication platforms for overseas buyers and Canton Fair brand enterprises. It is helping to promote efficient and accurate docking on supply and demand.

Overseas partners and business associations have supported the online promotion events, and foreign embassies and consulates have attached great importance to all events of the Canton Fair, according to the fair organizers.

The China-Britain Business Council, the Roscongress Foundation, the Italy-China Chamber of Commerce, the Belgian-Chinese Economic and Commercial Council and other partner institutions have utilized their resources and channels to promote the Canton Fair and invited local buyers to participate in the event.

Ouahiba Behloul, general director of the Algerian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, expressed her thanks to the Canton Fair in a video presentation for its being held during such a special period.

It will play a positive role in the resumption of international economic and trade exchanges, Behloul said. She added that Algerian businesspeople have actively participated in the Canton Fair and the platform is a model of economic and trade cooperation between the two countries.

A head of the China-Britain Business Council said the council has encouraged member companies to seize the opportunity to participate in the online Canton Fair to meet more suppliers and expand in the international market.

Executive Director of ChinaSF, a San Francisco-based economic initiative run in partnership with the San Francisco Center for Economic Development, Darlene Chiu Bryant said she always finds China’s latest industrial development trend and the best-quality suppliers at the Canton Fair.

In this special period, the Canton Fair held online is of unique significance to resuming bilateral trade between China and the United States, she added.

The ongoing fair utilizes digital management, which realizes seamless connection from online promotional events to the Canton Fair’s online platforms. It helps to enhance the conversion rate of online platform registration and create better participation.
